Help Plan and Complete a Project
This page is underdevelopment and needs your input
update 4-20-2010

The successful implementation of any project requires the coordination of identifying a project, having the financial resources as well as the means and skills available to complete that project.  Opportunity also comes into play in that project, finance, and skills often have to come together in a timely manner.

Below is an exercise that I hope you will join in to make it a reality.

Here are the basic elements we have to work with:

  • There is a grant,$3,000 maximum, that we can apply for.  And we got it

  • It has to benefit the community in some way.

  • Local youth need to be involved in this project.

In the case of this project  the possibility of $3,000 for a project was brought up first.  The Federation / Foundation thought of three possible projects that might meet the requirements of the grant. (Exact requirements not known at this time).  Other project ideas are welcomed.

Selected project;

  • Develop a handicap access for fishing a Seneca Hill Health Facilityor that would be available to the retirement community their as well as the public.

---------------------

Handicap Fishing Access for Seneca Hill Health Campus

As the fishing access at Seneca Hill Manor was identified as the one that might most closely match the requirements of the grant it was decided that the planning of this possible project would go first.

Items to be identified and planning points

  • This was a project that was identified as a need over ten years ago by the Federation.  Is it still needed?  Answer Yes

  • What kind of access platform would have to be built? (cantilevered, floating dock, etc)

  • What volunteer skills and work are available?

  • What available for hire work will be required and is available?

  • What permits do we need?

  • Are ready to built plans available?

  • Are there other organizations that may be able to contribute financially?

  • Where do we get fish to stock in the pond?

  • Will structures within the water to create habitat for the fish have to be created?

  • Will parking be a concern?

Like it was said this page is a project that requires your input.  Help make this page grow and a project become a reality

Comments and Replies:

  • Fish can not be legally caught in body of water "A" and put in body of water "B".  Any fish stocking we do will have to come from a certified hatchery.  Here is one Hatchery http://www.hicklingsfishfarm.com/pricelist.htm , do you know of another? 3-6-2010

  • Once this project is completed there may be a need to supply fishing equipment As it is unlikely that many residents will fishing poles and such 3-7-2010

  • Will fishing licenses be required for the senior citizens?  3-7-2010

  • The Oswego County Fair may be an ideal place to promote this project 3-7-2010

Further updates:

  • The pond already has fish so initial stocking will not be needed at this time

  • The Youth Advocacy Bureau will be coordinating youth participation in this project.

  • to alternative for the fishing platform is a catlievered wood platform or a sectional aluminum dock with fixed poles (it is thought that using floats would be to unsteady.)

  • DEC has been contacted for possible restrictions and handicap accessibility compliance.
